June is here—bringing sunshine, blooming flowers, and all the beauty that early summer has to offer! With longer days and warmer weather, it's the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors, appreciate nature’s vibrant colors, and make the most of each day with friends and loved ones.

As we welcome this new month, we encourage all our residents to continue prioritizing their health and well-being. Take time to enjoy the fresh air, stay active, rest when needed, and embrace the simple pleasures that make summer so special. Your happiness and wellness remain at the heart of our community, and we are thankful to share this season together.

As we begin June, we also reflect on the many wonderful moments we shared throughout May. From special events and celebrations to everyday smiles and connections, those memories have made our community stronger. We look forward to creating even more joyful experiences and meaningful moments together in the weeks ahead.

Mother's Day Luncheon Celebration

A heartfelt thank you to our wonderful residents and families who joined us for our celebration of Mother’s Day luncheon. Your smiles, laughter, and love made the day truly special. Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mothers, grandmothers, and mother figures we are so grateful to celebrate! Special thanks to our incredible dining department and dedicated staff for helping bring everything together so beautifully. Your hard work and care made this celebration unforgettable!

Nurse & CNA Week Celebration

We celebrated and honored our amazing nurses and CNAs, while also acknowledging every department that contributes to making our facility feel like home. From Nursing and Social Services to Housekeeping, Dining Services, Therapy, Maintenance, Activities, and every supporting hand in between — each person plays a vital role in the lives of our residents. A special thank you to our generous supporters including David Mercer, Chick-fil-A, McKesson, Krispy Kreme, PruittHealth Pharmacy, The BBQ Exchange, Food Lion, Hospice of the Piedmont, Silk Mill Grille, Starbucks, McDonald’s, and everyone who helped make this week so memorable. Your kindness reminded our staff how appreciated they truly are. We are deeply grateful for this extraordinary team and the heart they bring every single day.

Family Picnic for National Skilled Nursing Care

What a wonderful start to National Skilled Nursing Care Week with a family picnic!

Thank you to all our residents, families, and friends who participated — we hope everyone enjoyed themselves! A special thanks to our fantastic dining department, staff, and activities team! And thank you to Dwight for the fantastic live music that made the day even more memorable!

Community Casino Night

What a NIGHT! Our first-ever Inaugural Community Casino Night was a tremendous SUCCESS! It was a fantastic way to conclude National Skilled Nursing Care Week with laughter, dancing, fun, and unforgettable memories. From the depths of our hearts, THANK YOU to all our residents, families, friends, staff, sponsors, and supporters for making this night truly magical. Your love and support made it all possible! A huge shoutout to our Dining Department for keeping everyone well-fed! Thank you to our incredible staff for all your help and support! Special thanks to our AMAZING Activities Department for the hard work and dedication that brought this event to life! And of course, thank you to DJ Erick for the awesome music that kept everyone dancing the night away! We are beyond grateful for every donation, sponsorship, helping hand, and smiling face! We hope everyone had an unforgettable evening

Much to Celebrate on Memorial Day

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the heroes who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. At Dogwood Village of Orange County, we proudly acknowledge the bravery, service, and dedication of our veterans, military families, caregivers, and community members. Their selflessness and commitment inspire the compassionate care we aim to provide daily. To our Memorial Day raffle winners, we celebrate YOU — our amazing team! Thank you for your hard work, compassion, care, and dedication each day. We are truly grateful for every one of you and feel fortunate to have such an outstanding group making a difference in others' lives. Congratulations to our raffle winners, and thank you for all you do! Lastly, a heartfelt thank you to our Orange County Health Center Commission Member and Orange County Board of Supervisor Member for visiting Dogwood on Memorial Day and checking on our residents and team members. Your kindness, support, and presence were deeply appreciated by our community. We are truly thankful for leaders who care so much for Dogwood and those we serve each day.

Soaking up the warm rays of sunshine while indulging in delicious, refreshing snow cones is truly one of the highlights of our summer activities, all thanks to the incredible efforts of our dedicated Activities Department! The Activities Department has gone above and beyond to create a memorable experience. We are incredibly grateful for the Activities Department's hard work and creativity in organizing such delightful events that bring us all together!

Alice Mills

Meet Alice, who has dedicated 16 years of service to Dogwood Village as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). "What I love most about Dogwood Village is our residents and being able to care for them like family. Dogwood Village is a great place because of the wonderful residents and supportive staff. A special thank you to Gertie Carter, Lois Boston, our night team, and DON Tabitha for their support, teamwork, and dedication. I am grateful to be part of such a caring community.”

June is Dysphagia Awareness Month

In honor of Dysphagia Awareness Month, we want to acknowledge our outstanding Speech-Language Pathologist, Katie! Your efforts in promoting safe swallowing, communication, and quality of life enable residents to preserve their health, confidence, and independence. We appreciate the encouragement, education, and support you extend to residents, families, and staff. "Dysphagia is a significant health concern in the United States, with its prevalence estimated at around 16–23% among adults aged 65 years and older. (National Foundation of Swallowing Disorders) However, dysphagia can affect individuals at any stage of life."

Continue the fun on June 19th at 2:00 PM with our Sock Hop & Root Beer Floats Social, featuring live music by Joey Knot. Enjoy fantastic music, sweet treats, and great company!
