Volunteer Spotlight – August 2017

Dogwood Village would like to recognize Cherri Conner Lawson for her contributions to the facility. Cherri was born in Paducah, Kentucky Lake and at the age of eight she started going to Bear Creek Girl Scout Camp on the lake. She went every summer until she was old enough to become a counselor. Camp was where she learned about wild flowers, fossils, tree identification and bird watching. Cherri moved to Charlottesville at the age of 23 and has lived in the area for over 40 years. Hiking and kayaking became her new mountain experiences. Cherri and her husband have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. She and her husband moved to Madison County ten years ago. Seven years ago, Cherri became a Virginia Master Naturalist. She is a member of the Old Rag Chapter. Her interest in gardening and volunteering is how she decided to become a part of the Master Naturalists Reconnect with Nature program at Dogwood Village. Cherri has been with the gardening program for five years. She is pictured with Fred Wease as he picks his cucumbers from the resident garden.
